Gaming News and Updates: September 21–October 10, 2026

 1. Tokyo Game Show Faces a Weather Disruption

Tokyo Game Show 2026 encountered a significant disruption when severe weather led organizers to cancel the event's scheduled activities for September 21. KONAMI confirmed that livestreams and other programs planned for that day would be adjusted, rescheduled, or delivered in revised formats. The decision highlighted the logistical challenges of organizing a major international gaming event during dangerous weather conditions. It also meant that players following individual games needed to check publishers' official channels for revised broadcast schedules rather than assuming every planned presentation would go ahead as originally announced.

 2. Xbox Game Pass Adds More Games for Late September and Early October

Xbox continued expanding its Game Pass lineup during the period, with Microsoft's September 15 announcement outlining several additions extending into October. The selection included survival adventures, action games, and cooperative experiences, giving subscribers a range of genres to explore. The published lineup included RuneScape: Dragonwilds, Dune: Awakening, Well Dweller, Minecraft Dungeons II, and Keeper, with availability depending on the title, subscription tier, and supported platform.

One notable addition was Keeper, scheduled for October 2 in the announced lineup. The game was described as a largely wordless adventure following an awakened lighthouse and a seabird companion. Its presentation offered a different kind of experience from the combat-heavy and multiplayer titles also featured in the service's catalogue. This variety is one of the reasons subscription libraries can appeal to players who enjoy discovering games outside their usual genres.

 3. Xbox Cloud Gaming Announces Monthly Usage Limits

One of the more consequential platform announcements from this period concerned Xbox Cloud Gaming. In a September 3 update, Xbox said that, beginning in November, Game Pass plans would include a set monthly allowance of cloud-gaming hours: 15 hours for Ultimate, 10 for Premium, and 5 for Essential. The company also said subscribers could purchase additional playtime after using their included hours, with further details and regional availability to be provided before the change took effect. Microsoft estimated that the change would affect approximately four percent of Game Pass subscribers.

Although the announcement preceded the requested September 21–October 10 window, it remained relevant during this period because the change was approaching. Cloud gaming allows supported games to be streamed rather than fully installed on a local device, which can be useful for players with limited storage or hardware that cannot run a game natively. Usage limits therefore matter most to people who depend heavily on streaming for their regular gaming sessions.

 4. PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct Reveals New Projects

The PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct, broadcast on September 20, provided another major source of announcements around the beginning of this reporting period. According to PC Gamer's roundup, the presentation featured 36 games and downloadable-content announcements, including 13 world premieres. It included new trailers, gameplay footage, developer interviews, release information, and demos.

One of the showcased projects was Really Illegal Golf, a cooperative game that turns golf into a chaotic criminal escapade. Rather than concentrating on the conventional goal of completing a course, its premise involves sneaking into unusual locations, evading security, and causing trouble along the way. The concept illustrates how independent developers continue to experiment with familiar genres by changing their objectives, tone, and multiplayer structure.

 5. October Opens With a Busy Game-Release Schedule

October began with a substantial slate of new games and updates. PC Gamer's October schedule listed releases such as Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered, Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, and End of Abyss on October 1. The schedule also included a Deadlock hero update on October 2, followed by additional releases and updates in the days that followed. Platform availability differs between games, so the schedule should be treated as a guide rather than a claim that every title launched on every system.

 6. Xbox Outlines a Renewed Focus on Consoles and Its Future Platform Strategy

Xbox also attracted attention in early October following an internal town hall led by CEO Asha Sharma. Windows Central reported on October 6 that Sharma discussed the company's recent restructuring, plans to strengthen its core console business, and continued investment in services such as Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and Play Anywhere. The discussion also touched on the future Xbox Helix initiative and a broader family of devices, including handheld formats.

Gaming News and Updates: October 11–31, 2026

A roundup of notable game releases, platform news, industry developments, and updates from the second half of October 2026. This period included major new releases, Nintendo's indie showcase, subscription announcements, and continued discussion about the future of game development.

October's Release Calendar Remains Crowded

October continued to deliver a wide variety of games. The release schedule included Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered, End of Abyss, Gears of War: E-Day, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, and Kingdom Hearts Collection. The final weeks of the month also brought Phantom Blade Zero and The Wolf Among Us Remastered. The crowded calendar gave players options across action, adventure, RPG, and remastered classics.

Nintendo Indie World Showcases 23 Games

Nintendo's October 28 Indie World presentation featured 23 games in approximately 15 minutes. Announcements included Witchbrook, Spirit Crossing, RACCOIN: Chaos Max Edition, Tenjutsu, and Kitsune: The Journey of Adashino. The showcase highlighted how independent developers continue to bring varied concepts to Nintendo platforms, from cozy life simulations to action-focused adventures.

Nintendo Switch 2 Expands Its Game Lineup

Nintendo's October updates also highlighted Minecraft for Switch 2 and other additions to its growing library. The company continued promoting upcoming and newly available games, while its news page listed several seasonal events and activities for existing titles. These announcements reflected Nintendo's effort to keep its platforms active through both new releases and recurring in-game events.

Xbox Game Pass Changes Its October Catalogue

Xbox Game Pass continued to change its available library as October ended. On October 31, nine games left the service, including Deep Rock Galactic, LEGO Star Wars, Wartales, and several LucasArts remasters. Subscribers were offered discounts on departing titles, giving players an opportunity to purchase games they wanted to keep playing. This is a reminder that subscription libraries are temporary collections rather than permanent ownership.

Ubisoft Updates Assassin's Creed

Ubisoft shared several Assassin's Creed updates during the period. On October 26, the company announced a major content update for Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, including New Game+, Nightmare Difficulty, and additional content. The update offered returning players new ways to revisit the adventure. Ubisoft also published a broader franchise update on October 29, discussing recent releases, community feedback, and future plans.

Halloween Events Return to Live-Service Games

Halloween-themed events appeared across Ubisoft's games. Its October 22 announcement highlighted Doktor's Curse in Rainbow Six Siege, Red Moon Unleashed in The Division 2, and Brawlhalloween 2026. Seasonal events give players limited-time activities and rewards, while encouraging communities to return to familiar games during the holiday period.

Gaming Industry News: Studio Stability and Rising Costs

Industry concerns continued alongside the release announcements. Reports around the end of October discussed studio restructuring, development costs, and uncertainty around major projects. These stories show that a busy release calendar does not necessarily mean every studio is financially secure. Large games require extensive teams and long development periods, making budgets and staffing important issues for both developers and players.

The October 11–31 period showed how gaming news now extends beyond new releases. Nintendo's indie showcase brought attention to smaller projects, subscription services adjusted their catalogues, Ubisoft continued supporting established franchises, and seasonal events refreshed live-service games. Meanwhile, industry reports reminded audiences that the business conditions behind game development remain a significant part of the gaming landscape.
